Prague, Czech Republic

Prague, or Praha, is the capital of the Czech Republic.  Home of Mozart, Kaftka, and the largest castle in the world.  I’m in a country younger than I am.  I’m curious to learn more about how the split of Czechoslovakia affected the people here.

Ivana, a friend I met in Hamburg (my first travel friend of my journey) met up with me for a few hours before she left for Berlin.

We walked the short distance to the Old Town Square which is incredible, through the Christmas Markets, across the Charles Bridge, and to the castle.  A man was blowing bubbles whimsically at the entrance to the main street.

We ordered some traditional cinnamon rolls from a booth to share as we walked. The dough is roasted around a pole and rotated over an open fire.

We then met her friend Martin, a Czech, for traditional Czech cusine. We had duck dumplings, potato pancakes, a garlic oil soaked cheese, and potato puffs.  It was all very deliscious.  Dumplings here are different than what I would expect a dumpling to be.

Dinner went a little long and we were minutes shy of being in a 2000 person pillow fight in Old Town Square.  Oh well.

So much to do tomorrow before things close for Christmas.  The city is too beautiful. You can’t do it justice on camera.

So glad to hear how much you like it. I was a little concerned that it had been built up so much that expectations might leave you a bit disappointed. Wish you were going to be here for Christmas, but it seems as if you’re at a perfectly wonderful alternative. Have fun and know how much you are loved at home. 🌲

Oh, I think you have done it justice. Your photographs are absolutely breathtaking. I want to see more. How do the Christmas markets in Prague compare to the Christmas markets in Cologne? BTW Merry Christmas!
