This was the year my friends and I turned 30. And so, we picked a place to go have a ‘girls birthday weekend’. We ventured across the country to Charleston in the height of summer and spent a very long, extended weekend enjoying the town.
Charleston is full of color and history. While I’d been to Atlanta and New Orleans, this was my first time “experiencing” the south. The city is considered the “low country” and is full of delicious, fattening, southern grub. Biscuits and Gravy, Shrimp and Grits… you could eat for days. It is home to Fort Sumter and played a significant role in the Civil War.
Fun Fact: In an effort to preserve their past, Charleston has a 100 year rule. If anything is older than 100 years it cannot be taken down, painted over, or demolished. Every corner you turn will bring to a new building, statue or piece of street art that has been around since the 1800s. The historian in me loved it.

This is the touristy Pineapple Fountain.

We also took a day adventure out to Magnolia Plantation. I love Charleston.
